Senior Health
Symptoms of depression and anxiety are often seen in the elderly. These symptoms are often a reaction to many commonplace circumstances that impact seniors.
Disability, physical pain, loss of a spouse, social isolation, increased dependency and poor nutrition may all be factors causing depression. Anxiety is often expressed as excessive worry about health, doctors, appointments, safety, money, fear of falling or getting lost. These fears can result in a panic associated with leaving the house and result in isolation and self-neglect. Counseling and/or medication can be very helpful in resolving depression and anxiety.
To rule out other possible causes of a change in a mental state or mood fluctuation, LifeStream will look into such areas as drug interaction, improper taking of prescribed medication, vitamin deficiencies or the onset of Alzheimer's Disease and other related dementia illnesses.
A trained geriatric specialist must also look to other less evasive interventions that can help a person's mental well-being. These can include easy access to social and recreational activities, door-to-door transportation, hiring a companion, accessing a volunteer or senior program such as "Meals on Wheels".
LifeStream will provide counseling to the senior at home or in the residential setting, and provide the necessary supportive services to optimize mental health.
