Senior Law
Senior Law is a specialized legal practice that concentrates on the specific needs of the older segment of the population. The practice emphasizes all areas relating to seniors and encompasses matters such as trusts & wills, asset protection planning & Medicaid issues, estate planning, Medicare & healthcare planning, long term care insurance issues, guardianship, Social Security issues, financial decision making through the use of Durable Powers of Attorney, and medical care & end of life decision making through the use of Health Care Proxies & Living Wills (named "advance directives").
In addition, the issue of Medicaid qualification is an important aspect of Senior Law especially for a person in need of either custodial home care or nursing home care.
In 1988, a group of attorneys formed the National Academy of Senior Law Attorneys, a professional organization that is solely concerned with the improvement of legal services to the elderly. Senior Law is unique as it is the only legal area that is defined by the clients we serve. We speak with our clients about their long term planning for health care and financial viability. In addition, we delve into matters involving family dynamics, personal values and opinions and end of life decisions.
LifeStream's Gary Elias, Esq. is a senior law attorney with over twenty years experience who is a member of both the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys & the Senior Law Section of the New York Bar Association. Mr. Elias will set up legal consultations at the "home" and at the convenience of the client. The "home consultation" allows for a familiar setting, personal attention and sense of ease with which the client can be introduced to the myriad of issues involved in Senior Law.
LifeStream is the only care management service company that employs a full-time Elder Law attorney on staff.
